The Asplund Stockholm City Library requested a design for a complex program that would evolve over time.
Currently, libraries compete with book stores, cafes, music lounges, and reading areas and the internet.
The challenge was to see how the Library could be re-organized to remain a relevant source of current information.
We engaged in an analysis to create potential for program flexibility in a fixed building design.
The design process included the use of a parametric computer program to analyze multiple scenarios through pushing and pulling the computer model.
Once we developed the most flexible solution, we studied the exterior envelope and how it could give the building a unique iconic image.
