600 Norton Ave falls under the Park Mile Specific Plan; new commercial development in this area is limited to a maximum height of 75’, residential development to 45’. While the Wilshire side is mixture of 5 to 6 story commercial building the adjacent Hancock Park neighborhood is predominantly large estate homes from the 1920’s. A strategy of introducing planar cuts was utilized to reduce the visual impact of the building. The result is a profile that is simultaneously complimentary to the adjacent residences while relating the massing of the commercial buildings along Wilshire. Combined with the extensive use of fiber cement shingles and shakes throughout the façade and roof, this 4 story structure visually compliments the large two story residences common to the Hancock Park area.
