Unlike most districts within the city, the lore that surrounds the Sunset Strip is comparatively older. It enjoys a well-established international reputation as a destination for restaurants and vibrant night life. For such an important artery in Los Angeles, Sunset Strip lacks any definitive boundaries. Foothill Basque (Spanish for forest) explores the idea of a landmark positioned at the Eastern end of the strip. An important feature of the project are a series of landscape terraces - groves. The long canopy protects patrons from the sun while shielding the residents above from street noise. The grand staircase is designed to accommodate musicians and artists creating an active vertical plaza.
